Week of Aug 10 to 16

We're at the beginning of eclipse season, the window that opens about a month before the first eclipse (August 12) and doesn't close until a month after the second one (August 27). If things have felt disruptive lately, chaotic, a little unwelcome, plans dissolving, conversations turning blunt, ground that suddenly feels less solid, that's the instruction, not bad luck. You're officially being shown what's ready to move, so that the self you don't fully recognize yet has room to step forward.

This week, that instruction arrives directly: a Solar Eclipse New Moon in Leo, the first in a new series, landing near the South Node, the point that moved into Leo on July 26. The South Node marks what we're meant to release, not chase; its opposite, the North Node, points toward what we're growing into. With it newly in Leo, the letting-go this season has a specific target: the armor built to be seen, applauded, proven right, not confidence itself, but the performance of it. It carries two instructions at once, the New Moon's usual invitation to set intention, and the eclipse's harder edge: an ending, a letting go, whether or not you feel ready.

The Sabian symbol for this degree names it almost too plainly: a group of chickens, intoxicated. Chickens aren't built to process alcohol, give them what's foreign to their nature and the result isn't a boost, it's disorientation. That's the mirror this eclipse holds up to the personas, the applause-hunger, the crowns that stopped fitting a while ago: relief you reach for outside your own nature was never going to hold, because it wasn't yours to metabolize. What you're actually thirsty for is closer to peace than escape, found by turning back toward your own capacity for self-mastery, not poured in from somewhere else.

You may not fully recognize what's actually ending. That's not a failure of insight, this season carries two eclipses, and the shape of what's being released doesn't always resolve with the first one. Set the intention here if one is ready. But mostly, let this be about the letting go, even before you can name what it is.

A few questions to sit with this week:

  • What have you been reaching for that was never actually yours to metabolize?

  • If you can't yet name what's ending, what does the shape of it feel like?

  • What would it look like to meet this week's discomfort with what's already yours, instead of something borrowed?
