Week of Aug 30 to Sept 6

Jupiter and Saturn, the two farthest planets we can see with the naked eye, have just formed a positive, harmonious aspect — a trine, and this is the first of three trines the pair will make in the next year. Astrologers call Jupiter and Saturn the teaching planets, because between them they carry the two lessons that shape a life. Jupiter opens us toward faith, expansion, and meaning, while Saturn holds us to the discipline, the timeline, and the structure that makes meaning last. When the two work in harmony, as they are right now, expansion finally gets a container strong enough to hold it, and discipline finally gets a reason worth showing up for.

Every trine like this one has a seed, and this one was planted with real precision. The Great Conjunction of December 21, 2020, put Jupiter and Saturn together at the very first degree of Aquarius, and many believe that 2020 alignment was the Christmas Star, the same bright point some say led the Magi toward Bethlehem. It marked the start of a new twenty-year Jupiter-Saturn cycle, and also the start of a two-century shift of these conjunctions out of the earth signs and into air. Today's trine falls almost six years later, the phase astrologers call the waxing trine, when the structure begun back in 2020 first meets real, visible support. I remember climbing to the top of Signal Hill that December evening with half of Long Beach to watch two points of light draw close enough to nearly touch. That same month, I planted a seed of my own and took my first astrology class, and the structure this trine is now supporting turns out to be collective and personal both, mine too, six years into becoming legible.

I am feeling this cycle come full circle in a very direct way this season. I have recently partnered with a classmate from my C-WAYS training to co-create a course together, one that follows Inanna's descent into the underworld as its guide. Inanna is the goddess we know astrologically as Venus, and this course is about the feelings so many of us have been taught to leave at the surface: grief, sadness, anger, rage, and yes, desire too. Over the last few thousand years, we have lost touch with these parts of ourselves, and reclaiming them is the road back to wholeness itself. We will follow Inanna down when Venus in Scorpio turns retrograde beginning October 3rd, tracing her descent as our own.

Tomorrow, Mars in Cancer squares Saturn retrograde in Aries, and you may feel this trine's ease meet some real friction. Mars and Saturn are astrology's two classical malefics, and this square works like quality control on the good news the trine just delivered, testing whether what you are building can actually hold weight. Let it press. What is real will hold.

A few questions for you as we navigate this harmonious aspect, which continues through July 2027, and receive its benefits:

•      What seeds did you plant back in December 2020?

•      What structure have you been building in your life that suddenly feels more expansive?

•      What is one step you could take this week to actually set that structure in motion?

I am sitting with the same questions as I build this new one with my classmate, and I will keep you posted. An announcement is coming soon.
